Ok, so yesterday I went and I bought 2 fishes. And...one ALREADY DIED. But, he was laying sideways on the BOTTOM of the water and didn't float up. I already flushed the poor thing down the toilet. And yes, I am POSITIVE he was dead. But why was he on the bottom. And the other fish I bought, on one eye the WHOLE THING is black, even the part that is supposed to be white around, the opposite eye was normal. Any idea why one eye was all black? Please help!!

  1. My fish always died on the bottom.

    ALWAYS.

Never a floater deader.  Maybe you fed them to much, lol..

  2. the one that was on the ground. u should have touch it to see if its dead.

the one with the black eye, maybe he was punched in the eye!! lol, sorry.

take the one with the eye problem back to the pet store and get a knew fish...thats all i have 4 u!!!

  3. good question

  4. Fishes don't always float when they die.

Sounds like your other fish has some sort of disease.

  5. When humans die after about 3 days they puff up and float (if they die in water). Before those 3 days (or whatever number of days can't remember) they are filled with water which makes them sink.

It might be the same with fish =D xoxoxo

  6. when i first got 2 fish mine died the next morning, they die sunk at the bottom THEN float to the top, the eye part doesn't sound normal

  7. it didnt go to the top cuz it didnt wanna see you becuz it was disapointed oooo :[

  8. filled with water.

  9. Go the fish store and ask one of the workers or the manager.

It might be your water, the tank, something you put in the tank or possibly even the food. Something obviously is wrong with one of those.

  10. Poisoned

  11. I wouldn't have flushed it down the toilet. I would have taken them both back to the pet store for healthier ones.

To answer the question, not all fish float to the top when they die.

  12. flush 'em.

  13. when fish die they float to the top but after an hour or two it starts floatring down two of my fish died

btw i just founf out that classic fish bowls is like a slow death to a fish so if your fish tank is not filtered your fish will only last a week at the longest

  14. Ihave only seen one fish in my hole life float to the top. And it was prob. poisened.

  15. I've had several platies die and none of them floated.  You still may be able to go back to the fish store and replace your fish with another.  Take a water sample with you.  I would at least call them and let them know what happened.  The petco here gives you a 12 or 14 day warranty.  He was already sick with something when you bought him.

  16. Not sure about why your fishes eye is black - maybe it was born with that defect?

Also, i just want to say that you should NEVER flush a fish down the toilet - it might have had a disease, and by flushing it down the toilet, the illness could be passed on to wild fish. You should always either bury a dead fish, or put it in a bag and put it in with the household rubbish.

I recommend that you go back to the person/place you bought your fish from - they might be able to help you with your query about the fish's eye, and they might also replace your fish since you have only had them for one day.

  17. They probably had the "ick" and were sick when you bought them.

  18. they don't have to float when they are on the floor that means they were dieing from sickness.
