My five year old was playing with my three year old's speak and spell toy and he spellede out cuss words and

he won't stop even when I tell him not to and explain why he shouldn't

If I were you, I would give him just a little spat on the leg. (Not hard enough for him to have a red mark) I would take away the toy he plays with the most, and tell him that if he doesn't stop, you are going to take more of his favorite toys he plays with the most.

My daughter had a leapfrog caterpillar that sounded out all of the letters.  It wasn't my 5yr old who figured out that you can make it curse.  Nope...it was my (now ex) husband.  He was having a poker party and the laughter from the other room was so loud that I went to check out what the guys were up too.  I knew that it couldn't be good, but I NEVER imagined a bunch of 30somethings playing with a toddler toy!  Soon after the "discovery", I found that Leapfrog fixed the "problem" and you can no longer make the caterpillar curse!!

How does your five year old know these curse words and how to spell them??  I would find that out first.  Then, the next time he makes it swear, punish him.  Take away toys, tv time, or anything important to him.

At the age of 5 he it seems he would be on the young side to know of cuss words, let alone how to spell them.  What is the source of such language and knowledge for him?

If it's the television you need to better monitor the programs that he is watching.  If it's from someone in the household you need to be more careful to censor your language around your son.

You should celebrate his intelligence.  The fact that he's only 5 and able to recognize and spell words is praiseworthy, you just need to encourage him to use the right words.  

He may be doing the cuss words for attention, praise him for good words and totally ignore the bad ones, he will respond to your positive vibes.

Tell him those words are innapropriate and wont be tolerated

if he continues, take away more things
