  1. Well, you will get a refund for sure.

You should NOT have to write them for that. Call them and have them pull your record and they should refund it no problem.

As far as compensation for missed work, from experience they wont give you squat.  If you complain hard enough maybe you will get a voucher for a free ticket or something.

  2. thats terrible you should be able to get compensation yea!!

  3. Most companies require some kind of documentation of what went on for their files/records. You could certainly plead your case in the letter for compensation, include what your costs were for this cancellation. Missed work, hotel room, meals? Did you get your luggage back so you had clothes and other necessities or did you have to go and buy those as well. Be factual and honest in listing what your added expenses were and include any receipts for these items that you may have to show the costs incurred.

I had a situation similar (domestic travel in the US) and it took me about 2 months to get a check from the airline, and many, many phone calls to them to follow up on my written documentation sent in as well. But eventually I did receive compensation for the items I submitted to them. Be persistent, call every week and follow up with them.

Most cases they will offer you a flight coupon/voucher on their airline for future use, but see what you can get and push it as far as you can.
