Question:

My floor boards are drafty, how can i solve this?

I want to do a really gd job, and have a natural look. I can't get under the boards as they are on the ground floor, and i don't want to pull them up.

  1. Its not the boards its the gap between them ! You can caulk this by filling with hemp string and then brushing with linseed oil, almost invisible if done properly.


  2. The old fashion method for this problem was newspaper soaked in water ( papier mache )add a little wall paper paste as a mold preventer, and caulk the joints with it, and it take varnish when dry.

  3. The proper way to do this is to get long lengths of very thin timber about a half inch wide. Glue and hammer these into the gaps between the boards and plane off flush when set. This gives a natural look - the old newspaper trick drops out when the boards move.

  4. if the gaps are not big enough, u can polyurethane it. basically apply a coat or two of clear, or colored, paint. it usually clogs things up pretty well, plus, it keeps your floor nice!

  5. There is a wood filler on the market which comes on a tube suitable for a caulking gun which may be of help. alternativly contact a floor sanding specialist who may be prepared to fix it for you good luck.
