I was thinking of putting in 12" x 36" concrete piers in the dirt, then jacking the floor up and putting a 6x6 post in there. thoughts please!!

  1. 12" x 12" piers would be big enough then put a beam under the floor and use house jacks to support the beam, these jacks work better than 6 x 6 posts as they are made of steel and are ajdustable and not very expensive or hard to install.

here is a link for house jacks and they do come in different sizes. if you want more info feel free to contact me.

  2. Really don't know what you are describing. Would be nice if you listed floor span, distance from under joist to crawl floor. Sounds logical what you suggested.

Wish I knew more about your project.

  3. Why don't you just install a beam through the center and support it with 3 posts.  That should cut the span in half.

  4. the piers are the right idea but i would span a beam under the joists (all of them) and hold the beam up in multiple places. this will allow you to level and adjust easier in the future and you'll be adjusting the whole span not just individual locations

  5. is your house held up now by concrete and pier blocks ??

    I'm assuming it is.

If there are not enough pier blocks under your house, your idea sounds good, but the 12x36 seems over done. i dont think they even come in that size.

Or go to DYS....the do it yourself network....free  !!

    good luck
