  1. I would be taken him back to the vet and tell them that the injection is not working and find out if there is anything else that they could do for him.

  2. kaopettate 1 to 2 oz by syringe or by table spoon ( 1) two times a day for two days and check temperature not going over  101.5 degrees you can try the pink stuff for people we used it on our horse with good results.

  3. Did he start the scours when his mother came into heat the first time?  Sometimes this will set off a foal, then even when the mare goes out of heat, the colt will continue with the scours...did you ask your vet about giving your colt IV fluids to get him back into balance?  Has your mare been bred back by now?  If not and you plan to breed her back, you might go ahead and get it done, sometimes, a foal will suffer from scours until the mare is bred back.  I would certainly think that giving the baby electrolytes isn't going to hurt anything.  Oh, was the mother wormy when she foaled?  Sometimes, if you get a wormer from the vet, one for the foal and worm it, it will stop the scours.

  4. Is he urinating? If so, then chances are that he is hydrated.  Have you tried Kaopectate or Lomotil (loperamide)or Gastro Guard?  Has the vet given you a diagnosis..like Rotovirus?  What about his butt..I have heard that Wyatts Pinxav is really good to clear up his poor little scoured butt.  I have also heard that yougurt is good too (not for the butt!! for the diarrhea..).

Some things do take time but your vet should also offer more support.  With all your giving him..watch out for constipation...so keep a few enemas on hand too!!

So, upon reading this again..you waited 10 days after noticing the diarrhea?  And the vet just came out within the last three days?  have you spoken to him since the injection?  lab results?

Good Luck to you..hope some of this may help.  I called a friend whose foal had similar problems..thankfully he is doing great..but it took alot of nursing 24/7, calls to the vet, etc. so, keep your chin up!!

  5. Is it scours?  Did the vet give you anything to assure the foal would not become dehydrated?  Did he give it electrolytes or anything?  I think it would be time to call the vet back out.  Is the foal still nursing?

Nope doesn't sound right, I would have the vet back out.
