Question:

My folks boiler has just packed up, no money for repairs, no hot water, who do they call?

They are on pension credit and have no money for an emergency heating engineer, I have no money either or I would get it done for them. Boiler is over 36 years old and likely to be condemned if seen by a heating engineer. Help.

  2. Local Council, Age concern, any elderly charity, CAB for advice.

  4. They'd better get round to Citizens Advice who can work out the sums for them.

  5. If theyare on Pension Credit, they can apply to the DWP for a crisis loan  to pay for repairs or replacement. Phone up and ask for the application forms. Will take about a week or more to sort it out.

    Or see if Age Concern can help.

  6. Here in MI we have what is called a Commission On Aging and several other Social Service agencies that could help poor, older folks such as your parents.  I'd certainly start in on the Yellow Pages of the local phone book to find someone in that line to ask for help.
