The mom would go on the daughter's back and start mating. Nothing would happen because the mom can't mate another female but why does she do this? She even did that to another rabbit that is owned by my other friend. Rabbit is also a girl. They don't live in the same cage. They are seperate but every time we put them together, they do that. Even the other sister (2 sisters and 1 mom) who also lives in another cage tries to mate with the other sis whenever they're together. o.0 We seperate them. But why do they do that?

  1. My female rats do this too. It's called Mock Mating. They do it when another female is in heat. As far as I've read, it's not for dominance, as they do what's called power grooming, and scent marking. If you've ever seen Meerkat Manor, you'll see the dominant females doing that.

I wouldn't worry about unless they start biting or scratching. It's a hormone thing ;)

  2. Its about domination or letting the others know who the boss is.  I have 2 female dogs, and sometimes they try to hump each other, even though the male dog is supposed to do the humping.  Don't worry, its natural, and has nothing to do with being g*y.

  3. Either they are g*y lol or it's what a rabbit family does.

  4. You don't need to separate them. The mom is trying to show her dominance over the others. She isn't doing it to mate or try to atleast.

  5. It's for dominance and because of hormones. You really need to get them spayed if they are not already www.rabbit.org

  6. Perfectly normal! It's just dominance behavior. Same s*x animals will mount each other to show dominance.
