Question:

My friend's suitcase went missing from Manchester Airport.

He had to take a connecting flight but was told the fault is at Manchester Airport end. His relative is contacting the airport for updates. It is a pain when you have nothing at your destination. Will he get any compensation? It was a new suitcase with those special locks for airport staff to check inside instead of smashing the lock off like they did with the last one. Could this be the reason why it has gone "missing"?

  1. The lock should have nothing to do with the bag going missing.

If the fault was Manchester, then I presume his arrival airport know where the bag is and when it will be arriving. If not, they are just passing the buck!

The airline should reimburse him for essential purchases, toiletries, change of clothes etc but he must get ok first from them and keep receipts.

If bag is completely lost then better to .claim from travel insurance.

The arrival airline and airport is responsible for tracing and returning the bag, not the departure airport.

    Hope that helps.

  2. He will be able to claim from his travel insurance.
