My friend and I are looking to go on a round the world trip. How should we go about it?

Question

So, basically, we are looking for help and answers to such questions as:

> How do we go about it?

> Where are the best places to go?

> What is the best mode of transport?

> How long is best to go for? etc....

> How much is it likely to cost!?

And any other tips/ideas would be greatly appreciated and welcomed. Thank you!!

I've been to a few different places, but never on an "around the world" trip in one shot.  It won't be cheap.  

I've read about and tinkered with the following site, but never actually booked on it.  Looks freggin' awesome though.  Have fun!

Take a cruise that stops in many ports. It's a great way to get your feet wet (Yeah, yeah...I know...Bad Pun!). And, it costs a ton...BUT it's one good way to make a quick study of various places. I use Holland America's two or three-week cruises to get a feel for various countries Then, I save some bucks, fly back, rent a car and off I go!
