Question:

My friend brought back cane toads from QLD!?

One of my friends went to QLD & bought back about 20 tiny baby cane toads!! Aside from taking livestock over the border & destroying our native life & he being up for a hefty fine if he gets caught with them, I think it is very cruel to keep them! especially from the wild!

What can I say or do? I am not stealing them off him & taking them back to QLD!!

Advice?

I have said my concerns but he wont listen

  1. Call Parks and Wildlife.  If one gets out it will ruin the ecology of the area in time.

(He might be in for a hefty fine!)

  2. Kill them. Kill them all. NOW!!! Cane toads are a scourge with NO natural predators. You do NOT want them exploding into your ecosystem!

    KILL THEM NOW!

  3. Cane toads are extremly adaptable and have no natural predators because they are posionous. Cane toads will eat our crops and each female can have up to 18,000 offsprings a year! He honestly needs to get rid of them for the welfare of the toads and your entire area. So I guess jsut try to talk to him and tell him abotu all the damage he can cause.

  4. Cane toads don't eat our crops. They do eat almost anything that moves if they can fit it into their mouths. They are not natives, so taking them back wouldn't do any good. They are hardly endangered, so keeping them in captivity won't do any harm. Actually, they are considered pests because they displace the native species. My advice is to get off your friend's back and let him enjoy his pets. He already knows your feelings.
