  1. I will read through the terms and conditions with a fine tooth comb as some airlines do not allow name changes no matter what.  What they would prefer to do is to allow your friend credit towards his or her next trip.

  2. Unfortunately, there is no simple answer to this, at least not without further information.

If the holiday is a "traditional" package, your terms and conditions will be laid out clearly on the operators website which you should check straight away.  For example, if your flights and hotels are provided by Thomson, their conditions of booking would apply.

It could be more complicated in two ways:

Firstly.. if the passenger who wishes to travel is the first name and signatory for the booking.  If you have booked either a traditional package, or a "dynamic" package (flights and accom bought seperately of each other) involving a charter flight, you may not be permitted to change that name at all at this stage without paying high cancellation fees, up to 100%.

Secondly:  If the holiday has been booked dynamically and is using a low-cost carrier, Ryanair for example, fees to change a name can vary wildly between companies.  Some charge a small fee, others a small fee plus the fare difference between the day you booked and the day you make the change.

My advice is that you :

See how your holiday has been booked

Check the operator websites for information

Contact the supplier (or travel agent you used) immediately to make the change.. many tour operators will "lock down" most changes to a holiday within 14 days of departure

  3. bout £50 or so but each airline varies
