When I tried to turn it on just to see what would happen, there was a line of undamaged screen along the left side... about half an inch. I could see my icons and could click them, but of course couldn't see what I opened up.

I sold the computer for parts, and had the guy try to pull my info from my hard drive. He tried "two different programs" whatever that means, and said he couldn't get the info, and gave me the hard drive, which sits on my desk in an envelope and taunts me, basically, because I'm going insane.

My friend is giving me his laptop, but it's a different brand. Hard drives don't just transfer, do they?

All of my music, videos and pictures are on this hard drive and I desperately want them back.

What do I do?

  1. This is easy,

    Option 1

I suggest you buy an external Harddisk case for your harddisk, its cost about $20, then put your old harddisk into the case, plug the external case ot your new computer, then transfer the files you need to your computer, then you can still use your old harddisk as a portable external drive.

    Option 2

BTW you can also replace the new laptop's hard disk with your old Hard disk, it is compatible, but i recommend option 1

  2. just a short note to you  - i was at best buy in cleveland and they had a case with a usb plug that you could put a hard drive in and make external drive out of good luck    miktill

  3. if the laptop is exactly the same make and type you can transfer the hard drives, otherwise no, but why not purchase a usb caddy, pop your old hard drive into this and access it has an external drive, more below
