He currently runs an science paper editing business using the internet on it and has told me he will upgrade and I was wondering would he be better off using Windows X.P Professional?

  1. He would be better off upgrading to XP. Microsoft has abandoned Vista already as Windows 7 is out in 18 months. At least XP ran for 7 years or so before Vista came out!

  2. Upgrading to a newer version of Windows is always a bit of pain because of "drivers".

Each device on the computer (mouse, monitor, printer, scanner, modem, etc) has its own driver that will let the computer "talk" to the device.

Upgrading from 2000 to XP isn't that bad, as XP has nearly-same drivers.

Not the same with Vista. After installing Vista, you may be left with no internet, no printer etc, because  Vista doesn't recognise the devices.

    hope it helps
