Your friend would need to be willing to add a cable box. Then you would pay half of the entire Direct TV bill.

No second dish, $4.99 a month fee and I recommend having DIRECTV install. You can do it yourself but you need a multiswitch and not a splitter to add a receiver.

You would just need another receiver...still, though, DirecTV would have to install it (run the cable, etc.)

No! And you don't need an installer to come out either.  Just trace the cable on your friends TV back to the splitter and then run a new cable from the splitter to your room.  Then order an additional box for $4.99 a month and your in business.
