My friend in France told me she had 20cm of rain last night - does she mean Millimetres?

20cm sounds like an awful lot for 1 night, and she is French so the not the cleverest girl I know, - I’d say she meant MMs?

She probably means 20cm which isn't that uncommon. 20mm would be 2cm which is more of a shower rather than a downpour.

Actually, she is not lying to you.  Recently, Europe and Asia have been nailed with flood waters that killed many people and left more unaccounted for.
