My friend in India is offering me to start a subsidiary or equivalent in US. What are my options?

He already has customers in US and wants to expand his business here and asking me to be a founder for US side of business. What are the options and legalities involved?

  1. Well if you will be the sole proprietor, your financial fate will be intertwined with this new company. Make sure you read over the business plan with a fine comb, and really be convinced that the business is viable prior to associating your name with it.

    Once established, you will have a myriad of other legal issues to consider, depending on the nature of the business. I would love to help you out further, but the circumstances are different if it is an import/export business, or a manufacturing business, etc...

    Just make sure to do your Due Diligence, and do it well. I've had more than one client go down because of involvements in businesses that thrive overseas, but are unsustainable in the North American market.
