Hi. My friend is considering HSing (her 4 young girls are Pre-K thru 4th gr) and I have given her some good OPINIONS as to why we believe it is better for the kids. Any one have any WEBSITE LINKS to FACTS, re: pros and cons and other factual info re: HSing? We are both Christians, and she is looking for factual info to present to her husband as they consider what to do next year for schooling thier 4 kids.

Thanks so much!

  1. I don't know where you are located geographically.  You can start by looking around this site:

    http://www.hslda.org/Default.asp?bhcp=1

It will give you a good idea of the laws and regulations as well as some ideas on getting started.

Also, here's an article that addresses the "social" stereotype:

That's an issue you're going to hear a lot about, but I'd advise you to turn a deaf ear to it, right from the start.  People have pre-conceived judgements about homeschooling and the social thing is just what they regurgitate when they have no real idea of what homeschooling is all about.  I can tell you that homeschooling has been awesome for my family.  It was like night and day for my kids.  They're actually happy and interested in what they're learning because they get to choose the majority of it.  Our family is not dominated by school schedule and mountains of homework.  I'm watching my children excel while still being able to be children, not mini adults.

Oh yeah...we use a Christian curriculum called Sonlight.  Here's their link:

    http://www.sonlight.com/

It's a really good program, especially if you love literature.  It comes complete.  Even the schedules are provided.  It's fairly pricey, but nothing like the cost of private school!  We've found it well worth it.  I hope I've helped.
