My friend is convinced she has a soulmate?

She is schizophrenic and told me that "the voices" say she is going to marry someone rich. She's convinced she knows who it is--a man who's already married and barely knows her. She jokes that he could get a divorce.

I don't think she's dangerous, but I worry that she is obsessing and might stalk this guy, so I told her that she shouldn't listen to the voices. She says that she doesn't want to listen, but she thinks that it might be God talking to her.

I don't believe that God would tell anyone that they are going to have an easy life. In the bible, any mention of God speaking to someone usually indicates Him giving a warning or telling them that they will have struggles and hardships before they earn their reward.

I know that my friend is not telling her psychiatrist everything. Is there something in the bible that will show that she shouldn't listen to the voices and that there is no such thing as soul-mates?

God would never tell us something that went contrary to what He has given us in His written Word.  That should help.  Because breaking up another marriage is not anything God would say to do.

Well, you could try Paul's exhortation "it is better to marry than to burn."  Does that sound like soul-mate stuff to you?  LOL

We know God made Eve for Adam, but we don't know what occurred after the fall in that respect.  I think you could look at the curse on women after the fall.  Not the pain in child-birth part, the other part, to see that women have different longings then men.  Even with Abraham and Sarah, we see that he had other wives, for example.  

Ruth is a book about love.  I do think we can take from the Bible that God has a plan and purpose for those who commit their lives to His will, but I would say there is nothing in the Bible about God giving us soul-mates.  That is God's role, so to speak.

Tell her parents -- or her psychiatrist.

Maybe she needs her meds changed.

I kind of think that if she is not thinking rationally, nothing you tell her, whether it be Bible based or not, is not going to have any impact on her
