My friend is getting budgies!!!???

Question

My friend already has 4 fish. After a week she had to change the cage (thank fully i was there!) she thought that you could put them in water from the tap PLAIN when you change the cage. She wants Budgies now and her dad said yes. Shes getting the budgies tonight and everything with them too! (she doesn't have the stuff yet). The fish were her first pet ever.

She wants to let her birds fly around the house...is that safe??

no its not.i had a budgie and i let it fly around the house.then it got losed and i could never find it 2 weeks later i found it dead in my basment.it was very sad for me.it was a budgie and it was very sweet.i thought it was being nice to let it use his wings.what i say you do is let them fly in her room or get the wings clipped.and if she dont they will probally never sit on her hand and shell never have a budie to play with.parakeets can be like other birds,you can play games with them,teach them to talk,teach them to dance,all that stuff.hope this info helps and your friend follows what i said.she may think that her house is secure for it but a little budgie will find some were dark and safe to hide and probally will die there.and she may never find it again.----good luck

No, it's not safe. They crash into closed windows, fly through open ones, into mirrors, toilets, walls, ceiling fans, pots on the stove, out the door, etc. All kinds of dangers are in houses. It's also better to clip their wings so they'll be easier to tame, too. If she gets 2 of them, they'll tend to bond with each other instead of her. She should do some reading and research them first. Good luck...oh yeah, they p**p all over everything, like every 5 minutes. Messy.

she should just let the budgies fly around in her room because they can be quite hard to catch, also open windows arnt good, if they are in one room then there easier to watch to make sure they dont get into any trouble.

She could let them fly around the house she would just have to make sure all windows are closed and the bathroom door is CLOSED! toilets can be death for any bird that can fit inside the bowl!

its okay to let the birds fly around in a room with closed doors and windows. but not around the whole house because they could get lost or injured.

Well it doesnt sound like her dad knows how to care for birds either if he is encouraging her to let new birds fly around the house free. They will find out real quick that they wont be able to catch the birds right away and when they do they probably wont turn them loose again. Don't envy her, ask your own parents if you can get some too.
