My friend is getting married and I want to give them a cool present?

Do you think a bottle of Cristal to toast on that special day would be a good idea.?

Oh yea I will not buy them something practical for the house or anything like that. SO don't even suggest that...I want it to be something fun...

Go for it if you want to spend that much on one bottle.  

Otherwise I've given a set of "date night" packages to a couple.  All gift certificates: local pizza joint gift certificate and movie gift card for a "pizza & movie night," amusement park gift certificate and casual dinner gift certificate for a "be kids again night," etc.  I had five date nights planned out for them, about $300 total.

Or a bottle of Dom, that would be nice. If they are into wine and would appreciate the expensive stuff, very nice.

Cool artwork would be neat, if you know their tastes, and they like that. Got galleries near you?

Keepsake quality gifts are good, a anniversary clock if their tastes are expensive, something Waterford, like a vase would work if they like crystal[the non-drinkable kind spelled with a "Y"].

Something cute and clever like a gift basket would work, especially if it supports or invents a couple's hobby or activity. Are they into cooking?  Get a gift certificate to a kitchen store, put in some cooking utensils, maybe a unique cookbook or some  expensive spices[I paid many dollars for a bottle of Durkee cloves from the grocery] stick it in a basket lined with a linen tea towel.

Or, do a night at home basket, my fav, especially if they have a fireplace. Do hot cocoa packets, popcorn, some movie theater candy, a gift certificate to Blockbuster, two color coordinated acrylic lap blankets[I got mine at General store for $5 bucks] even a couple of cocoa mugs and a small plate.Or upscale that to a bottle of buubly and a gift cetificate to the candy store for chocolate covered strawberries Add some of those long matches, those pinecone color things that you toss on the logs to make colors, or some firestarters. Yes, the double meaning to the word firestarters is intended, but I really mean those wax things that melt and catch the tinder on fire.

Do they entertain a lot? Do a booze theme basket, like a margarita kit, salt, glasses, umbrella and mixer and booze included. A wine kit, bottle of non-Cristal or non-Dom, an opener, gift certificate to good place to buy cheese, a cheese board/cutter, even some nice wine glasses.

If parks are near you and they like nature, a picnic basket would be different, they come with the tableware, and if you look you can find an upscale one, saw one at one of those high end buy out discount stores that was expensive even for there.  Add a gift certificate or the actual bottle of wine if it will fit, a nice blanket, [see source of $5 one above] or a table cloth, even matching napkins[try the party store or Walmart for color napkins].

Want a not cheap joke gift if you get the picnic basket? Buy one of those molded plastic carry coolers $18 at Walmart, and either the actual expensive or cheap beer of choice, or a gift cetificate to the liquor store in it. And a bag of corn nuts or those big pretzels.That might make a great batchelor party gift.

muh, i wouldn't care too much I got that although I would appreciate the idea ..why don't you get them a room at a nice hotel for a night with a buffet breakfast included the next morning and maybe a couples massage ..that they would remember. Our best man did that for us and it was the best gift by far!! We got the king spa room sweet at this wicked hotel in our city with the biggest casino attached and we had a ball!!

I got my friend a gift bag and put "Hot s*x" liquor in it. It tastes like chocolate milk and we were all having "hot s*x" all night. Good times.

Also while giving alcohol is fun they probably would appreciate a gift they can use more than once. Maybe a gift certificate to a bed and breakfast? Or condoms are always useful
