A friend of mine is homeless and I'm not sure how to help. He doesn't have enough money to go to a hostel anymore so camps illegaly in dodgey areas.

He is from Greece, does he have any legal rights in Dublin? He is finding it hard to get a job as he has no place of residence, and so has no money to get a place of residence. Is there anywhere he can go for help? Thanks

  1. Let him live with you and he can find a job and earn money...

  2. Show him a nearby church that offers these curriculums or a community center, They should help him get a decent job somewhere and help sort things out. I understand your pain. Don't ask why

  3. keep him yourself at home.

  4. if he is your friend why dont you put him up

  5. First of all I think what needs to be determined is why is he here in the first place?? was it through choice?? If he is homeless he needs to go to the local authorities (the council) and provide proof of this, i.e. an eviction notice. If he does not have this then he has obviously been booted out of somewhere or come here without no preperation.I hope you understand that the way things are in this day and age with illegal immigrants etc it's gonna be hard for them whether they are illegal or not because it is very hard for someone to enter the UK without proof of supporting themselves or someone supporting them. If this person has been booted out or cannot proove they are homeless then my best suggestion is to make the foyer of the local council their home and hope that they then believe that they are genuine... and yes, I mean sleep int the council office.

  6. Is he actually out there LOOKING for a job? Or is he just using these excuses to get sympathy, and a free ride??

    http://www.dubsimon.ie/

these sites offer help with homeless issues.

I am not sure if greece has a consular service in dublin

but that would be worth checking also

  8. How about he gets a job and contributes instead of taking from society.

  9. let him use your home as a contact address

  10. If he is street homeless in Dublin, there are a number of places who could help one of which is The Salvation Army emergency shelter in Malborough Place Dublin 1.  They have an emergency night shelter, with a possibility of short term accommodation. (up to 3 months).  This place (Cedar House) will also support him in his searching for work, and will put him in touch with the visiting Community Welfare Officer from Dublin Corporation.

    Try conacting them on 01 873 1241.
