My friend is in critical condition...?

and I don't know if i should call his family to let them know he'll be in my prayers. What should I do?

Call their home and leave a message on the machine.  When my brother was dying we had to unplug the hospital phone to stop the calls.  The best thing to do is send a card and express your sympathy and prayers.  They may not read it for some time, but they will be so glad you thought of them when they do read it.

Yes call them. Never doubt that your show of support is worth a lot.

I just lost a good friend to cancer and while I didn't go see her (she didn't want to see anyone towards the end) I did speak regularly with her husband and sent her one or two text messages telling her I loved her and was praying for her. Afterwards her husband did thank me and told me that it was important for him to know that I didn't shrink away from the situation even though it wasn't always easy. I was a wreck emotionally, but I'm glad I was there for him, even for a little bit.

Yes....do call them.  Or even send them a card.  Evey little good thought will help them get through this.  Trust me I know from recent experience with my Dad.  (He is ok now!)

Calling them will help...and talking to him (if he's alert) is even better!

Yes you definitely should. Chances are, the family is just as worried about your friend as you are. And just you letting them know that you are thinking about him could very well make them--and you--feel much better. Feeling your sympathy and love will makes things easier on everyone in the family. And just kow that your fiend is in my prayers now as well. <3 best wishes to him in his situation

Go to the hospital, but be in the background.  I think preaching Jesus at this time is very inappropriate.  After all, if Jesus were there, would your friend be in the condition he is in?  People don't need you to disillusion them.  Keep it real, and just be there.
