she's having a going away party and i just want to get her something little. she already has most of the things she'll need and won't really have a 'home' since she'll be hopping between various host families.

  1. shouldn't she be the one to get you something? shes the one going on the trip. is her birthday during the trip or something? get her something asian themed like a picture holder in the shape of a take out box. then put pics in there and put it in another box and fill the bigger box with fortune cookies instead of styrofoam or those packing peanuts

  2. A collage of photos of you and her and maybe her close friends as well. With funny captions. So she can bring it with her and remember the rest of you.

  3. a ticket home

  4. If you're going for something small, a small photo album with pictures of her hometown, school, etc. is nice.  When she's with her host families and classmates, they'll have lots of questions about where she's from, and the pictures will help her explain that.  Further, it gives her something nice to look at when she's far from home.

I was an exchange student for a year in Japan back in the 80s.  That's something I would have liked.

If she's a letter writer, pre-addressed envelopes to family and friends would be nice, too.

  5. Get something she will need to use in Japan, such as an alarm, watch, language book, travel book, bag, journal, photo book and if you can't then just maybe get her a girly gift she would like.

  6. nothing would b better than a nice warm hug n a good bye kiss...
