I saw him for the first time in a long time today, He is orange! his eyes are not even a color I could describe and he has lost so much weight. His skin is covered with scabs from scratching...What will we friends have to expect as this disease progresses? I hate surprises,I'm scared for him.

  1. How old is he? He may be able to get a transplant, but I think the cut off age is 60 years on that.  They should be able to treat the symptoms you are destribing with a TIP's procedure.  As his liver continue's to fail he will have an fluid build up in his abdominal cavity and will began to look pregnant.  This fluid will be drained on a regular basis for his comfort.  In the late stages he can suffer from a condtion that basically is like having brain cancer as far as the effect on the mind.  Also, he is more likely to develop primary liver cancer with cirrhosis.  This will be like any other cancer.

He may eventually be too weak to get out of bed and lose touch with reality.  This is generally how the last few days or hours go for terminlayy ill patients.  Like I said, he has treatment options, you may not be at that stage.
