My friend owes back taxes & doesn't know what to do...?

I have 28 days to pay them over $1,500.00 in back taxes or they will put my trailer up for sale at a Sheriff's Auction......I'm a wreck!!!!! My sister thinks I'd be free from the trailer payments and taxes....but we aren't sure....I said what if I'd still owe the almost $10,000.00 I still owe on the trailer.....we don't know???

Your "friend" - or you.  Keep your story consistent.

You don't say what kind of taxes you are talking about.  Since you are threatened with a sheriff's sale, sounds like property taxes.  No, if it's sold that way, it doesn't change your responsibility for the trailer payments.

You would still owe the rest of the loan on the trailer. The auction is only to recover the amount of unpaid taxes.  

So why don't you contact the taxing agency and work out a payment plan to get your taxes caught up?  They're a lot more interested in you paying up than in taking your trailer and selling it and having to deal with all the mess with the unpaid loans and everything else.

And get a lawyer before you do anything or talk to anybody.  You're opening yourself up to a world of hurt if you try to fix this on your own and miss any of the details.

Get thee to the legal aid society or the county lawyer who is doing pro bono (for free) work for the month. If you don't have a legal aid society, telephone a few lawyers, tell them the situation, and ask if you can work out a payment plan with them. I stalled the city of Chesapeake, VA for 3 years for personal property taxes! I finally paid, but I made them sweat!

yes you would still owe for the trailer. When they take your car you still have to pay the difference when they sell it. You on the other hand will owe everything you owe now on the trailer because the money from the trailer goes to the debt. Your screwed.
