Should she bring a lawyer, the MTA Police in NYC.

This means that she has been summoned to appear before a court to answer for a crime she is accused of.  In New York this is typically a Class A misdemeanor that can come with up to a $250 fine and 15 days in jail.  Typically there will be no jail time or it will be served as community service.

    Having a lawyer is your choice.  I will say that if you choose not to your friend needs to do their homework for your local laws beyond Yahoo Answers.  Good luck and be brave in court.
