Question:

My friend stole my parent's credit card, now what?

My friend, who is married and has an infant, has stolen my father's credit card, and he is out for revenge.

He got a call from his bank today, informing him that a card that he'd had in his desk for emergencies for two years suddenly went very active. My friend and their spouse has had trouble with the law. Minor things, but all the same, things like shoplifting as a minor and such.

So far they've only gone to Coney Island, Sonic's, Sephora, Victoria's Secret, and Wal-Mart. Nothing too horrendously expensive. My father is not financially impoverished to say the least, but he can become very irate when he feels injusticed.

He plans to charge my friend to the fullest extence of the law. He will not be negotiated with. Any attempt to talk him down will likely end in disaster for me.

Her husband holds a military job for now, and she was recently fired from her job waitressing at Denny's.

I'm shocked at my friends stupidity, that they thought they could get away with this.

What's going to happen to them? They are poor as h**l, and CANNOT afford to pay ANYTHING back. What are the highest consequences for minor credit card theft? What should they be expecting?

  1. She deserves Jail-Time and I hope she gets the Maximum...anything over $400.00 they will charge her with a Felony...Theft...Embezzlement...Fraud etc...don't stand up for her she stole from YOUR DAD!

  2. You can tell your friends they are going to get sued, have to pay fines, and go to jail. Ask them how they like jail cells, they'll be there for awhile. I can't wait until these "friends" do the same to you. Then you'll understand your father's fury. Nothing--not one thing--justifies what they've done to your dad. I don't care if they are the funniest, friendliest people you know that you love to hang out with. They deserve to go to jail.

  3. They should be expecting to be charged with fraud.  If convicted, hubby may lose that military job.

You should expect some questions coming your way.  How did your adult friends, get access to your father's desk?

EDIT - Really?  It's okay with you if people steal as long as they don't steal from you?

It's only a matter of time.

  4. fraud protection will take care of the charges, your father won't have to pay.  make sure he files a police report

they sound like some "great" parents

  5. blood is thicker than water, kiddo.

  6. Sorry but being totally broke don't give them any right to steal your father's credit card, and it don't matter if they use it to buy a home with or lil things, its stealing, and thats against the law...

This might be the worst thing that they will ever do and hopefully your dad is right that he presses it to the full extent of the law.. they need to be stopped.. they could end up in Prision for this, and to top it all off they could have there child removed from there home and put in Child protective services.. its usually the kids that end up paying the bigger price for the parents so ignorant...

  7. If your father is as serious as he sounds, then your friend has problems. If he charged more than $1000 on his card than its a felony. He is looking at 6 months to 1 year in jail, not to mention restitution.

  8. your "friends" are thieves. they will do jail time, just like they should.

makes me wonder what side of the law YOU are on since you see no harm in your "friends" stealing from your father, as long as they arent stealing from you. if they kill someone is it ok  as long as it isnt you too?

  9. You call these people friends? Call the police.

  10. call the credit card company and they will have it de activate it the next time they try to spend money the police will track it and get him
