Yep.  It's designed to make black holes and strangelets to destroy the world.  If something goes wrong with it, it will just make a harmless little "poof" sound and you get to live another day.

The LHC accelerates protons around a 27km ring that goes through Switzerland & France. The protons collide, releasing a huge amount of energy, which created exotic particles that physicists want to investigate. There is a chance that these collisions could create mini black holes, but if they do they would be no bigger than those that may be created as cosmic rays enter Earth's atmosphere, which obviously have not sucked up the Earth.

No matter if the collisions are dangerous or not, the world will not end tomorrow, since they are only injecting some protons into parts of the ring to test it, and no collisions will take place until around October - so you have about 2 months before the world ends!

what does it do? it's a super powerful collider and it collides particles.

goes wrong? nothing i think. some say it will destroy the universe but it's silly to think these collisions have never happened before in the universe when super massive stars collapse or explode.
