My friend wants to start motocross?

Try the Honda CRF150R. That bike would be great for him.....

Any one of the major brands would be fine. What she needs to do is go to dealers and try them, at least sit on them and see which one is the best fit for her. The more comfort, the more control; the more control, the more confidence.

If she is going to be racing then the best bet would be a small wheels 85cc and I believe that if you are in America they call that the mini class (am not an American so classes have different names where I am).  The kx85 is a good beginners bike as it can be a bit more forgiving for people just starting out, where Honda and Yamaha tend to have a bit more of a power hit.  

I would suggest that your friend goes along to a local club and get information about joining and find out the requirements for racing and find out what will be needed to get a race licence.  The Secretary of the club will  have the information on what to do for the licence.  They can then watch some others their age racing and see what bikes they have and if your friend asks  nicely they can perhaps have a sit on someones bike to try it for size.  

Your friend should also make sure they have all the safety gear before considering racing and a good quality helmet.  Many of the junior helmets are plastic so your friend should shop around for a very good quality one and not skimp on that.  A leat brace for the neck is a must as well and most people are wearing them these days.  They are an expense that many don't like to go to but I wouldn't send my boys out to race without them.  Your friend should also have all the other obvious things like good boots, chest armour, elbow guards, shin guards, gloves and goggles.
