My friend was charge with armed robbery in Canada, he is only 16 and first offence will we go to jail?

Yes.  Further, after he turns 18 he will be transferred to an adult prison.  Armed robbery has a hefty term.  The crown will argue that he was willing to hurt or kill someone to steal from them, hence the "armed".

I suggest that you get new friends.
