Hey all, I have a young friendly Black Lab/Border collie mix and for the most part he is very friendly. He is high strung and nips as he is only 6 months old but really he is friendly to anyone who we have met. Except my Grandfather who has a garden in our yard.

My granddad is a great guy, a dog lover, and likes the dog but the dog HATES him. he will dart around and bark really fiercely, and he is becoming more and more aggressive all the time. Its gotten to the point that I have to go out and protect him while he is in the garden, and I feel awful that my dog treats him that way.

I have put the dog on a leash and let grandad pet him and give him treats but the dog just wont get over it.... Im really frustrated and thinking of getting rid of a GREAT dog, because its not right that he acts that way around an old man.

Any suggestions would be great,

Thanks

  1. My female Border collie loves everyone except landscapers. I think its something to do with a chemical smell. Try leashing the dog and exposing him to Granddad a little at a time and treat for good behavior.

There is something that is frightening the dog. Make it a positive thing instead and be consistent.

Then eventually have granddad give the treats.

PS. Dogphor you need to shut up and give constructive answers.

  2. Dogs have a way of sensing things about people.  I dumped my boyfriends if my dog didn't like them.  My dog was never wrong.  I would bet the dog is right.  Just because someone is a grandfather, doesn't make them a nice person.

  3. YOU MAKE ME SICK! GETTING RID OF A DOG THAT JUST DOESN'T LIKE ONE PERSON! THAT'S REALLY WRONG!

Maybe if you rescued the dog, he was abused by a person who looked like him?

Maybe he did something wrong that he can't trust him?

Maybe he is protecting his territory?

Maybe your grandpa should feed the dog it's meel everyday;; everyday the dog bites him, that's one less day he gets food. Try that, but don't starve him.

    Hope that works.

If you get rid of him for that dumb reason you should be punished!

  4. Dogphor, or whatever his name is, is an idiot so don't listen to him. If the dog won't stop being aggressive I 100% agree with you on getting rid of him. I got rid of an aggressive dog once because my family is more important to me. No shame in that. Take care.

  5. Try to get your grandfather to give treats to your dog.  At first get him to throw treats because he might bite his hand.  Then slowly he might come closer to get the treat, Your dog might start to like him.

    Hope I could have helped.

  6. Get rid of him????????? What you need is to get him in a training program. Petsmart offers some good classes. Go talk to them and ask them what would be the best class to put him in. After you start the classes, follow up with the training at home.
