My friends computer just shut down and won't let her restart, its giving her al ot of options and she doesn't know what to do. Here's what it says:

We apologize for the inconvience but windows did not start successfully a recent hardware or software change might have caused this.

If your computer stopped responding restarted unexpectedly or was automatically shut down to protect your files and folders choose last known good config to revert to the most recent settings that worked.

if a previous startup attempt was interupted due to a power failure or cuz the power or reset button was pressed or if u arent sure way caused the problem choose start windows normally.

then the options r

safe mode

safe mode with networking

safe mode with command prompt

last known good config

  1. there should be a option that says "start windows normally", try it, this message appear when u fast shut windows, like cutting the light or just pressing the button without letting it shut down correctly

PC recovery dont delete your files, u will keep them, pc recovery just remplace the system files not your normal files like photos and music, they will still be there

  2. Just choose to go to SAFE MODE.  It is good if she can go to Safe Mode and can back-up her files. Then, she might need to use the PC Recovery because of the file corruption of the windows.

    good luck!

  3. Start in safe mode go to C:\ right click go to properties tools error repair fix errors new box tick small box to fix errors and reboot when windows reboots B4 it loads it will scan disk and fix any errors.

If she cannot start at all get a friend to download and burn to cd "ERD Commander ' and boot from it

It starts the same as windows but from cd from the menu find recover and follow instruction to recover your O/S

Did it to a computer that would not start yesterday it is up and running now

  4. choose safe mode. go into system restore once computer boots up and loads. restore to last known good configuration. and that should fix it.

  5. Start windows in safe mode then restart and start in normal.
