My friends iPod mini comes up with the little dead iPod logo. I've done all the steps to try to fix it, but it doesn't get along with any computer. It won't connect to the computer as an iPod, it will start to charge and then start up give the dead iPod logo, and continue to charge. One of the problems is that by doing this it uses all the energy it has, so it can't really charge. I realized that I was able to force it into disk mode when starting up. The computer then recognizes it. Task 1 complete. The real problem is that when iTunes says there is a corrupt iPod, I then try to restore the settings, which should work, but doesn't. When I click on "restore" it will try for a few minutes then pop up the message "Could not restore settings because iPod is in use". It then ejects it and undoes all work I did getting the computer to recognize it. I know that it is not an issue with iTunes or the computer I'm using, I've used it on at least 5 computers, 3 Macs, 2 PCs, and all with iTunes obviously. Does anyone know what the problem is? I originally thought that it couldn't be hardware since I was able to boot it into disk mode, but I'm second guessing myself now. The other problem I'm having is my iPod (20gb 4G (before photo)). It's the same sort of problem except that it doesn't get to the point of the computer recognizing it. When I get enough power to it, it will start up, I put it in disk mode and the message "ready to disconnect" pops up on the iPod. Neither the computer or iPod react when the iPod is plugged in. I have tried this on the same 5 machines as the mini.
In conclusion, if anyone has any idea at what the problem could be, that would be great. Thanks a bunch in advance.
