  1. rub his head when he comes out

  2. Kittens, like humans, have their own personalities.  You can't make a shy person into a outgoing huggy-feely kind of person, and you can't do the same to the kitten.  All your friend can do is love it, and accept it's personality as it is.

  3. first off try to give him a little time, i mean hes just a little kitten. also when u try to pet him get on your knees and talk gently to him. little kittens can be intimidated easy. and give him lots of attention and love. there just like humans. and while hes hiding, like the othr person said try to coax him out with a treat. but like humans some animals can never be changed even with love and attention.

  4. They just have different personalities, like humans.

The kitten will eventually warm up to people though will probably remain shy.

get you friend to play and give it alot of attention.

    goodluck

  5. just talk to him gently and pet him and just be very gentle with him. when he goes under the bed get a treat or somethinfg to help coax him out! good luck! i love kitties!

  6. It will take time but something a co-worker vet recommended for my new kitten is Feliway. It is a pheromone for cats and use the plug in diffuser not the spray. I plugged it in where my new kitten was hiding and it seemed to do the trick. He seemed to be more happy and therefore came out more. That plus a little time should do the trick. Also try to keep things calm where the kitten is and keep food/water and litter box in the same room.

  7. Don't clutch or grab at him, even with the best of intentions.  Each cat has its own personality, and its own way of dealing with the world.  The best way to get a cat to become more comfortable with you, is to fix him a little nest of his own, somewhere he can get in and defend against all comers.  This will foster his feeling of security, which can only be a good thing.

Then, don't rush him, just be around without any particular attention to him, and let him come to you.  If you give him a little control, you'll find him likelier to be interested in you.  They always like to think it's their idea, no matter what it is.

If you let him come to you, no matter how long it takes, you will cut down on his anxiety, and that will make it easier for him to come out and make friends.  Just don't expect or demand any more than he is willing and comfortable in giving.  And give him some time.  It will be worth it in the end.
