My friends:why are British people far more progressive than us Americans when it comes to racism & homophobia?

I just got back from UK and i noticed there are so many interracial couples and g*y friendly people , have you noticed that too my friend?

The UK had all but conquered racism at the time when MLK died!!

Whilst there is a little racism and some homophobia it really is very limited in comparison to America.

The main reason America has such trouble with racism and homophobia appear to be the extremist Christians!!

It all depends who you talk and spend your time with.

I have come across as many British racists and anti homosexual folks as I have Americans. My friend, landing in Heath-row when several plane loads of Africans and Indians arrived simultaneously got his hand shaken by an elegant gentleman in a business suit and bowler heat who said, " Dr. Livingstone I presume! "

I remember the rise of the skin heads in the late 60's with their "Pakistani - bashing" agendas through to the racial riots in the late 50's after the Suez crisis wher English police roughed up and arrested whites in the fights with blacks to show England wasn't like the American south etc.

I think they are brain dead because the  years of oppression have made them that way. Americans still have enough sense to know 2 men poking each other is not good for any society, I could care less about interracial couples, if they love each other they can still procreate. That is natural, homosexual is not and never will be natural no matter how many labels you put on it. I don't think it's fair to interracial couples to be grouped in the same category as homosexuals. I realize by your question you don't agree with my opinion but I assume you wanted an honest answer.

i went last summer and loved the lack of racism and homophobia..

i also admired that many women appeared confident and comfortable in their own skin and body size.....

something you'll never see in America.

and Christianity has NOTHING to do with it.

there are just as many Christians in the uk

Maybe it depends where you are and what class.  I notice more diversity in some towns especially south like London.   In my town there are few mixed race families (I can only think of 4 mixed race families I have know in my whole life).  I am a closet L*****n because I do not feel that my colleagues would understand.

Maybe your town in State and the town you visited in UK are diferent but not suer about the whole country?

Its not just the brits, all europeans are more mature than Americans.

The US is a nation of children. Look what happened when Janet Jacksons boob came out. It was a national scandal....when it should have been no big deal. Just like race and g**s are no big deal, but Americans cant deal with it

thats because in America, Christianity over takes your country. people are stuck on the religion thing, thats why its taking so slow for them to catch onto these now normal things.
