  1. Check with your gas company, they can tell you if the burners can be used on nat gas. If it needs to be changed out, get a pilotless system, that way you don't need to be burning gas when your not heating. If you don't do anything, you should shut off the pilot in the summer to save gas and electricity on your A/C.

  2. I have to agree with Dr D, no matter whether you have a two gas system or not. I cannot imagine the rationale for  such a systyem, but I guess I live in my own frame of references. To burn a continuous pilot however, the cost is so negligible, I doubt you'd notice.

The greater issue is in the continuous gas fed pilot, and it being extinguished in any way. The Electric is far more safe, efficient, though with more technology involved, and that cost difference alone, may take some time to pay for itself.

    Just my two "sense"

  3. When you say continous pilot system are you talking about a standing pilot (pilot is lite all the time). If you do there are conversion kits to make it an intermittent pilot.  That means the pilot only lights when the heat is suppose to come. This will save a little bit of gas.   When you go from natural to propane or visa versa you have to get the  correct gas valve spring, orifices (some people call them jets).  Hope this helps. Betty

  4. Sounds like you mean a continuous pilot (little flame on all the time)?  It may be more cost effective to have it converted to an electronic pilot (only uses gas when the thermostat calls for heat.  Older heating systems used a continuous pilot (systems that use natural gas or propane) - if that's what you have, call a heating contractor and invest in the upgrade to the electronic pilot system (is isn't a requirement to have standing pilot and wastes gas - and has nothing to do with conversions).
