  1. Visit a local winery. They will bring you on a tour of the winery, show you how wine is made and at the end  usually have a tasting where they explain the different kinds of wines and what makes them dry, sweet, ect.

  2. there are 3 good places to learn about wine that I am familiar with in the O.C.

1 - Hi Time wine Cellar - Hitimewine.net (wine and beer tastings - Costa Mesa)

    2 - Vendome Liquor - Vendomes.com (wine and beer tastings - Fullerton)

    3 - Frog's Breath in the Orange Circle(wine & cheese pairing)

All three places have wine tastings and more throughout the week.

  3. Trader Joes has some very inexpensive wines that taste good.  Forget all the snobbery and get what tastes good to you.  At Trader Joes, you can afford to buy lots of different kinds, and keep notes on what you like.

  4. The local liquor store.  Ask which one is best.  They will tell you.

  5. i have been making wine (red, white, pink) since 2004, most is great, some is just good, I will help you if you wish to make some on of your own... store purchased wines are wondereful, but to $$ for me.

  6. One of the best ways to learn about wine is to tour the wineries where you can sample a variety of wines and talk to people in the tasting room.  You can learn a lot this way.  For wineries in southern California visit:  http://www.cheers2wine.com/southern-cali...

Many local wine shops will have tasting nights that you could attend.  Drink lots of wine and take notes on the ones you like.

A good place to look online to get you started is this site:

    Cheers!

  7. Local wineries are a great place to start.

Failing that, look for a liquor/wine retailer that does classes and tastings.  There's a chain called Total Beverage, or Beverage Plus, or Beverage and More (I'm trying to recall exactly and failing) that you could look into.
