Question:

My garbage disposal/disposer is jammed?

I have used the allen wrench to loosen it up, but when I turn it on it turns slightly and jams again. After I loosen it, if I reach down inside, the top disc wobbles. I didn't know if it should do this or not. I can't see anything jammed, and if I keep turning the wrench it gets tight again. Thanks in advance.

  1. Take a flashlight and look down inside it sound like it is all rusted out inside or something jammed you have to look down inside it if rusted bad need new one

  2. The allen wrench is used to back off the blades from an obstruction.  Once the obstruction is no longer jammed in the cutters, it must be removed (manually).  Take a look inside the cavity after using the wrench and look for the problem  - often a nickel or other coin.

  3. Get a broom handle or any kind of long hard object, put it inside the disposal and turn until it loosens. Hope that helps!

  4. you claim the top disc wobbles.  chances are the bearing has died causing the top plate to wobble.

when this happens, the plate binds and causes the disposal to jamb.

    time for a new disposal.

  5. If you turn the allen wrench and it doesn't go all the way around, there is something jammed in it.  The broom handle is a good choice.  Do not turn the disposer on with the broom handle in it.
