  1. NO! You pinch the blooms on mums until July and then that is it.  You let them go until next spring when you shear any dead growth to the ground.

  2. I dont think you should cut them. my mom always has them and they get tall so she just ties them up so they wont fall over.

  3. For the time being, I'd just cut off the dead blooms, rather than thinking about trimming the plant.  Also, I'd cut some blooms to enjoy inside.  The general rule of thumb with many blooming plants is:  the more blooms you cut off, the more you will get.  That's while it's in its blooming season, of course.  You should be able to enjoy mums through at least the early part of autumn.  After they've finished blooming, then I'd trim it way back.  However, that's for an area in N. California that doesn't get much frost until December.  I don't know about other parts of the country.

  4. Heck no.Why would you?  Prop them up and enjoy.

  5. Not Now!  you will loose any blooms for the season.

BUT...Next year, have a private 4th of July pruning party for your MUMS and they will be twice as thick and ready for bloom in the autumn like they should .

Also, at that time cut them to 1/2 the height that they have reached on the 4th.  Not to the ground.
