yes sure sound like a error I wouldnt call the gas company

but take to one of their offices (like if you were to pay it

but then ask to speak to a rep

so they dont end up demanding more money

When's the last time you paid a bill? Have you been paying estimated bills for a long time, and they just finally got around to coming out and reading the actual meter?

I agree it sounds like a mistake. I'm just trying to think of reasons why it might not be.

Get them to do a double check.  Did they give you previous bills based on actual meter readiings, or were they estimates?  If estimates, your nasty shock may be correct.  If actual meter readings and you haven't suddenly upped your gas consumption, then get them to check for a faulty meter.

yes i would defenitly call someone and find your other bills to compare the readsings, but unless you have'nt paid your full bill and only making small payments it adds up real bigin the long run, i noticed if i pay my complete electric bill i never have to worry about them shutting off my power for any reason of not paying the bill. plus it does help your credit.
