My gas water heater is leaking?

it seems to be leaking from under the tank

  1. If it's old, bet it's rusting out, especially if you have funky water.


  2. replace it , no way to repair it

  3. There is an overflow/surge pressure relief valve high up on the side of the unit, usually with a downpipe that runs to a pan at the bottom of the unit.  This may be what is pooling water at the bottom.  Call a repairman to inspect.

  4. unless it's leaking from the pressure overflow valve, (which can be fixed with a valve replacement)  you're going to need a new water heater.  You should be able to get one installed for about 800 bucks if it's just swapping the tank.  Tank itself depending on size will cost about 300-600 dollars.
