  1. The best thing to do for a hurting gerbil is to just keep an eye on it. They heal remarkably quickly even with breaks to paws. A vet wouldn't be able to do very much for her at this stage anyway. Keep a close eye on her for the next few days and make sure she can get to food and water easily (ie, if you have a tiered cage, try to keep everything on the same level so she doesn't have to jump around to get at it). Make sure her eating and drinking habits don't change. If they do then take her to a vet immediately.

    Try to avoid holding her whilst her paw isn't well, you don't want to make the injury any worse. You can still feed her and stroke her from the door of the cage, just try not to touch that sore paw.

    Providing she's still eating and drinking normally and there are no behaivioural changes, she'll probably heal up just fine. However, if she's still not using the paw after a few weeks, or if the injury swells and gets hot (ie infected) again, you should  take her to a vet.

    Hope this helps.

  2. take her to the vet, and maybe he will be able to do something. most likely, she will have the leg amputated.

  3. Gerbils tend to heal easily on their own, and taking her to a vet would be very expensive, not to mention stressful for her and the fact that it probably wouldn't help much anyways. Due to their small size, it's virtually impossible to amputate a gerbil's leg, and would cause them probably more pain than letting it heal on its own.

    I personally have a "special" gerb. We like to call him special rather than "handicapped" or "disabled," because he's really not! Due to an accident with lack of water, when Murphy [the "special" gerbie] was a pup, Maia, his mom, started cannibalizing her pups [out of desperation, of course. D:] Anyhow, Murphy was left with two legs [hence his name, named after Murphy's Law] and gets on just fine. It healed up nicely and quickly after the acident, and he can do almost everything a four-legged gerb can do.

    Best wishes for her, I hope she's alright ;3

  4. Personally, I would take her to the vet.  If she really did break something then it must be painful, regardless of whether she is showing any obvious signs of pain.  Gerbils hide signs of illness and pain so it is not always easy to see what is going on.  A vet can prescribe a pain medication that will help, the vet may also prescribe a pain medication to help with any inflammation (like metacam).

    In the meantime keep her confined to a small cage where she can't exercise much.  Don't let her climb on thing and don't let her have a wheel.  Just keep her as still as you can and try to give her time to heal.

  5. I would take her to a vet. It could be very serious. If something got into her, her leg can become infected.

  6. Well im not an expert but im guessing there is something wrong with her paw ;

    If I were you ; I would wait a little bit because vet's are expensive and it could be nothing . If it continues to be like this in an hour ; I would take her to the vet .
