My 2 gerbils were standing up and clawing on each other. Does anyone know what they're doing?

  1. Be careful, if they are clawing, that probably means they don't like each other. I think this because my friend had 2 hamsters that fought, and one died. It was very sad. So I suggest you separate them for a while.

  2. well, if you have one male and one female, then they're just getting to know each other, and the male wants to rule the cage.

if you have two males, they're fighting because they both want to rule the cage, but they just keep fighting! try separating them.

if you have two females, then it just takes time for them to get used to each other. males are hard to take care of, so get rid of one, and stay with only one male in the cage. he'll be ruler and happy. don't stop feeding them, or anything like that. you need to still take care of them...just separate them first.

  3. Separate them.

  4. i know that's you , richard gere...

  5. i have 2 degus that do that. if you don't know what a degu is, it's like a gerbil. what they are doing is seeing who's the boss, like dogs do. to prevent this a bit more, try getting another water thing, another food thing, and most importantly, change the wood chips more often. i know it's a pain in the bum but it will prevent them!! It is sad, but if you see them fighting, let them fight! If one beats the other, it won't kill it, it will be the leader. example: My degus, Munchkin and Snufaluffagus, they always fight, but i know Munchkin is the leader, and Snuffles doesn't fight with Munchkin anymore because he know's he'll get his butt kicked!! Well i hope this helps!!

  6. Why would your gerbil be attacking your other gerbil?? Lol but i think that they either like eachother, or they just got mad at eachother for no reason at all!! idk but seperate them like the other chick said!!

  7. Ummm, I have no clue what THEY ARE DOING BUT TRY TAKING ONE OUT OF THE CAGE AND AWAY FROM THE OTHER FOR A WHILE AND SEPERATING THEM

  8. Are you sure that they are fighting?  Gerbils often will stand up and box each other.  It's for play and sometimes a show of dominance but does not usually result in a fight.

If you hear squeaking and they are in a ball on top of each other that is a fight and you need to separate them ASAP.  i suggest strong leather gloves for that.

If i looks like they are just boxing then it's normal behavior for them.

  9. that is a sign of an argument between gerbils. usually the aggression is dominance related. if immediate action isnt taken the gerbils could get into a serious fight. if one of your gerbils is injured, put neosporin on the wound, and press a damp rag to the wound. separate the gerbils.

  10. yes trying to kill one and other, separate them
