i bought 2 gerbils last week and now the mom has had babies. one is a male and is not her mate most likely. im pretty sure he is helping her because he sleeps in the nest and she does not mind and as far as i know he has not harmed any. i have pine bedding and i know that is bad for them, but i cant change it with babies. also, my aqarium has an attachment with ramps and i know those are bad for babies, but a website i was on says not to change the enviornment with babies. also, we are getting new floors and that will be very dusty. is that bad? please do not be mad at me for breeding my gerbils at such an awful time, they were supposed to be both males. what should i do?

  1. Before anyone say anything about what I am saying I breed gerbil.

Now the male gerbils help to rise the pups, so dad is fine it be a good idea for you to ring the vet and see about getting his male hood remove I now it can be done, do this beofer the pups are 5 weeks old, if you don't remove dad as the next litter is on the way at 6 weeks,

About the floor move the cage very carefully to a room out of the way, the dust not good. don't change or clean the bedding for the litter 2 to 3 weeks of the pups lives.

Take the ramps out do it went mom and dad are in the nest with the pups,

everything should be fine don't worry about pick up the pups mother will not have a probable, don't take mom out for a few days dad fine.

any more question give me an email,
