My gerbils do hate me!?

Question

Today I made my hamsters a show box filled with wood chips and stuff so they could chill and hang back in they crib... but all they do is go in there and try to dig/bite through it! even after I had let them run free for a few hours!... also on a separate note, why don't they know how to use their little water nozzle thingy... the only time they ever drink from it is when I squeeze it for them!

i own many gerbils and they just basically run around digging and chewing the wood chips to, its in their nature.chewing is good for there teeth so i would recommend you put some cardboard toilet tubes in for them to chew and maybe get a mineral stone and as for the shoe box they will just chew that if my gerbils are anything to go by! i usually put some animal bedding in the cage and let them make a bed with it etc rather than giving them e.g an iglo to sleep in which just gets chewed within half an hour. As for the water bottle issue if they still don't no how to use it i would recommend getting a new food bowl from a pet shop and filling it with water as some of my gerbils prefer that

Well gerbils teeth are always groing so they need something to chew on so that they do not grow too long and get un-healthy. also, the water bottle you bought may have been for a different small pet, so you may need to get a new one for pet gerbils. also many small animals like to dig and carry chips and put everythihng just the way they want it, i had a pet hamster and  I put chips in his bed, he wouldn't go in it, only if I let him put them in there the way he wanted.
