My gerbils wont run in their wheel ?!?!?

Question

my two male gerbils are one year old and have never shown any interest in running in a wheel, i put it in their cage for weeks and the closest they got was spinning it with their paws from the outside.

is this normal ? otherwise my gerbils are very energetic and happy

Some gerbils just don't like to use a wheel, plain and simple. If they are already a year old, and not interested, then I would just take it out and replace it with some kind of toy for them to play with. And make sure they get time with you outside the cage to keep them healthy and happy!!!

Hi,just take it out,i breed gerbils & NONE of mine have ever used theirs,gerbils don't tend to,yeah they tend to spin it from the out side but not the inside,its a shame i think its really cute!

Gerbils aren't know for running on a wheel unless it there are not holes in it!

Gerbils don't need and shouldn't really have a wheel as they have really delicate feet. They much prefer and benifit more from lots and lots of burrowing material.

Um. Their not supposed to have a wheel. Because they run around so much its better than a wheel. My suggestion is you take it. If its a bar one take it out as soon as possible. They can break a leg from getting their foot caught. Hope this helps.
