  1. If you had gone to Sirius puppy training, your puppy would have completely stopped mouthing by the age of 18 weeks.  File that away for your next puppy.  Keep on hand some really nice, safe toys for him play with.  When he picks up something you don't want chewed, you must gently trade the good toy for the other item.  Keep him happy and busy with Kong toys stuffed with food, treats, a dab of peanut butter..you can feed him all of his meals stuffed in Kong toys.  The Kong makes an excellent toy to throw for the dog, too.  Beware of bones which might splinter and kill your puppy.  Remove as many non-chew items as possible to where he can't reach them, as you would do for a young child.  You can freeze an old knotted towel and give it to him to chew on but don't let him eat any of it.  Pet stores sell many chewable items for dogs.  Pizzle sticks seem to last a while, as does compressed rawhide.  But again, always monitor your dog so he doesn't choke on anything or swallow a non-edible.  For book help, I recommend William Campbell's Better Behavior in Dogs which you may buy at Dogwise.com  It is a Godsend to pet ownerss.

  2. My german shepherd used to do the same! She wasnt bitting just mouthing or chewing! I always made sure she had a rope to chew on and toys and make sure she knows what she is alowed to chew! Cos without guide lines she might end up eating everything. Mine tried dvd's, tv cable and shoes. Just keep a good eye on her and she will grow out of this stage!

  3. Tap her on the nose when she does it, tell her no, then grab a toy and put it in her mouth, when she starts biting on that, praise her. This will teach her that mouthing you isn't ok, but she can mouth the toy!

JayJay...humping is not "normal" puppy behavior, that is the dog claiming dominance over you, which isn't kosher. That behavior should be corrected immediately.

  4. Tell him Nahrrrr no with a r-ing sound.

He's still a puppish but training will make him a stable and loved companion. This breed is very intelligent and needs to have a good alfa owner. Having a trainer to help you would be wonderful for you all.

  5. well he is a puppy. puppies tend to do that. my little yorkshire terrier did the exact same thing when she was a puppy. you might even think im crazy but she used to hump my arm at times. don't worry about this. it is all normal for a puppy. if your shepard continues doing this into adulthood it might still be alright just an unusual trait but check with your vet. hope i helped. to stop this you can look online or read books. possibly call your vet and ask the receptionist or nurse. something like that.

  6. My dog does the same thing!! All the time. She'd do it all day if I let her.

Um well, I think it's cute so I don't want to change it for good lol, but when I get tired of it, I just stop letting her.

It is just playing. If he's not biting then he's not doing it to be mean.

If you want to stop it all together, maybe think of a trainer. Sorry I don't know how to stop it personally.

When I want to stop playing with my little girl I just say no thats enough and won't let her do it until I can play..

Good luck and God bless you! :)

  7. Find some toy appropriate for a teething dog as that is what is going on. His adult teeth are coming in and he is trying to relieve some of the pain. Buy a kong toy or two pop them into the freezer and then give them to him to chew on whenever he goes for something he shouldn't.

When he mouths on you or your husband, say no or yelp and get up and walk away.He will soon get the point that using his mouth like that = no play time.

  8. At this age he is probably still getting his enormous back teeth. GSDs really are awful when it comes to mouthing! Just keep being consistent in ignoring him or even putting him out of the room when he does it - it takes a while but he will learn! At this age, a sharp NO! when he does it won't come amiss either.
