My gf and I are planning a trip to San Juan Puerto Rico during Late August for 7 nights. How is the weather (avg temp)? How warm is the ocean? Is PR similar to Cancun? Are the beaches swimmable? How clear is the ocean? (its not like NY beaches right?) Are the beaches Private? (if not, is it crowded?) What Hotels do you recommend? What restraurants do you recommend? any good online site for good deal? any advice?

thanks

  1. The weather is pretty tropical (hot and humid). The rest of your questions depend on what part of the island you are going to! I would say the best beaches are on the southwest coast, especially Cabo Rojo! The sand is white, and the water is crystal clear. Only a very small part of the beaches in PR are private. As far as hotels, i would reccomend the Hotel sanjuan in isla verde. It has a mall inside! (including starbucks!) In the Cabo rojo area i would reccommend the new best western hotel!

If you need more tips, or more info on the area you decide on,  email me im sure i can help!

  2. dont let anyone try to spray you with perfume or anything

it could be drugged and you will wake up without a kidney

  3. Iwas actually in puerto rico last august last yr. with my gf  and it gets pretty warn around 80 degrees. During that time i looked up the weather online and it said it should be partly cloudy and rainy but it was the excact opposite Sunny warm and clear.

As far as a placed to stay San Juan waterbeachclubhotel is were i stayed its great w/ a roof top pool and bar/club. As well as a trendy restuart down stairs. Right now there having package that includes

    – Daily Full American Breakfast for 2

    – Daily Dinner for 2 @ Tangerine Restaurant

    – Complimentary beach chairs & umbrella

    – Free High-speed Internet access

For only $99 dollars a person through August 1 - October 31, 2008. Another place. Ive regularly find good deals on is the Sherton Hotel in Old San Juan. This place even has a casino in it. You can check out there sites.

For Things to do the yunque rainforest is great and the Bioluminescent Bay. If you dont know what the Bioluminescent Bay you can google it to see if it intrest you and for the night club brava, the Nuya rican cafe and the oyster bar are all places i enjoy and just all around bar hoping in old san juan.

tips: if you stay in isla verde which is where beach club hotel and other hotels are to get to old san juan the bus is a good a very inexpensive way to get around as oppesed to a cab. If you dont rent a car. It is also very safe you dont have to worry about people bothering you. Also a place called La perla is very close to old san juan you can see it from El Morro stay out of that area. Nightlife in Old San juan is safe though alot of cops walking around.

enjoy your time and just keep doing your research there is alot to do as long as you know what and where. O ya also try the casa barcardi tour. Comes with 2 tickets for free drinks but if you ask for more they wont be stingy. speaking of rum also try Don Q its the best rum of the country and its not sold in the u.s. i belive. Captain duck is also pretty cool its a bus tour that goes around the city then turns into a boat then goes into the bay.

  4. Well, there's a lot to do in Puerto Rico, but if you don't know how to get to places, it will be very difficult. If you want to explore, which is what I really recommend, get a map, GPS works in here, the problem is that our roads are not efficiently labeled, and getting lost is pretty easy for a first timer. If you want ot enjoy some of the world's best beaches go to the southwest corner of the island, its a must go to "Playa Sucia" (dirty beach) its not dirty, its an ironic name they gave to it, its right next to Cabo Rojo's lighthouse, and is rarely crowded, pretty hard to get to it, need a 4wd truck, terrain is bad there, but the scenario is the most beautiful, its worth it. There's also other beaches, like Flamenco beach in Culebra island, but that is on the east and need a ferry to get there, also there's the bioluminiscent bays at Lajas and Fajardo, the trips go out at night, and in some tours they let you swim in the water. San Juan is crazy, a lot of clubs, hotels, the beaches are ok, but not as good, Balneario de Isla Verde is the closest to San Juan, and its good for jetskiing. Isla Verde is full of hotels, and right behind them you will see the Balneario de Isla Verde (the beach) they are not as crowded, because the hotels are in between, but they are not private. Pinones is a great place to have some typical food, Joyuda (southwest corner), the best food. The "Cavernas de Camuy" undergound cave system, quite huge and impressive. There's a lot, but remember that San Juan is not everything, but the best shopping there is, is Plaza las Americas in Hato Rey, San Juan. The weather is pretty hot, 90-100+, degrees, so go to the beach, bring shorts, swimming suits, sun-block and hats, cause you will get skin burns. Now, keep in mind that August is part of the summer and Hurricane season as well, so you should be watching the weather conditions before you get here, and when you get here.

  5. the kidney prank its funny, but that will apply for third world countries, and puerto rico is not one of the countries that i wish will have the privilege we do as a common wealth of the united states.

    well, what to expect?

all year round puerto rico is tropical, meaning one day you can wake up and see the clear blue sky and white puffy clouds and the shiny sun, it can be a beautiful weather, but it the next day it can be a rainy one and it could last either all day long or just a few hours. it all depends on the weather effect.

in august its mostly humid dry weather, it can be a rainy season but not necessarily all week long. it can get pretty hot, so i recommend light clothing, shorts and sleeveless shirts, sandals, tennis shoes, sunglasses and sunblock. water is a must when traveling anywhere around the island. water over here is very safe, its drinkable anywhere u go.

the ocean its pretty warm, but not hot water, its average. well, ive never been to cancun, but my dad went and he said that cacun its similar to culebras or vieques (puerto rico sister islands) which is beatiful because it has white sand and crystal clear waters. the beaches that say: baniario, its the part where are safe areas where people can swim, with bodyguards watch. there is always a 1 to 3 dollar fee per car, depending on the beach and area of the island. the part where u wont want to swim is in the depth part were there is no bodyguards or you can tell its outside of the banario area.

no. no new york beaches, cold and muddy. i recommend you go to the sister islands culebras and vieques or the western side and eastern side of the island where the beaches are way better than the south part of the island.

the part where is says banario are private beaches,  clean and safer to swim in. topless or nudity beaches are unacceptable in the entire island do to cultural issues. the eastern side beaches are crowded in holidays and weekends, the western part of the island and the sister islands culebras and vieques are less crowded.

there is places called paradores which are family private hotels and are very good and cheaper than other regular hotels. there are so many variety of restaurants all around the island.

    websites u can check out:

  6. a lot of rain and humidity.. you picked the worst time to go..its hurrican season at that time and most hurricanes rip right through PR

The best time to go is now.. its a little hot but the beaches are awesome and if you go to the beaches in San Juan theyre ALWAYS going to be crowded..Fajardo beaches are good  one of the beaches i dont recommend is Salinas...its dirty and covered with algea

  7. okay, the 1st person that answered is just retarted. gave me a good laugh .

    well, its bout 80-90 degrees.

Theres lots of places to see .. theres El Morro in San Juan which is a old ancient castle. It has a very interesting history. El Yunque which is a National Forest. El Museo de munecas in Quebradillas which is a barbie museum. El Arca de Noe in Quebradillas its a zoo. The beaches are wonderful. Very clear water and friendly people. I recommend that you go to "Crash Boat" in Aguadilla. Its definitely like NY beaches! You will find LOTS of people at the beach ! Spirit Airlines has some good deals on traveling. Hotels, i dont know about and ive never visited Cancun. You wont regret this trip.

  8. it all depends on you budget.....but if is not much you can still have a great time......If you can!!! try to stay in a hotel in Isla Verde, Condado or Old san juan ...preferable Old San Juan......because over there you have everything shopping ,museums, el morro (castle), restaurant's, great bars...and you can walk to get to those places ...plus you would be staing in the oldest  settlement within the territory of the United States its a beautifully place..... your chic its going to find it from fun to Romantic.....beaches here are beautiful!!!!!!! Its the caribbean!!!!!!water is always warm and weather its beautifull....but remember its hurracane season so....it could s***w up your plans......just watch the weather channel before you come and make sure there no tropical storm is coming......  PS if you have a GPS bring it....  It works here!!!! that way you can move arround better!!!

  10. well its pretty hot here. Probably around 90. So bring hot weather clothing. The water is pretty cool. PR can be similar to cancun, but not in the San Juan area. Probably in the Rincon or mayaguez area, which are in the west. The beaches are swimmable, I would recommend condado and Ocean park. The ocean is not crystal clear, it mostly blue. no the beaches are not private. Some are crowded, it also depends on the day of the week, most crowded on weekends. I recommend El San Juan in Isla verde. There are many restaurants in old san juan, but the prices are a bit shaky. In the metro area, the traffic can get pretty bad, and some locals are bad drivers with loud music blaring from their cars. In pinones they have "pinchos" or shishkabobs of meat or chicken for cheap price, the area looks like something out of a movie, a bunch of brightly colored little houses with merengue and bachata music playing loudly. This is where you will feel like you're in a tropical island rather than a city.
