I only went for a while but the ones near the ST bus station are ok but they were expensive when I went because of peak timing. but don't go to the one near the BMW showroom called something like shalimar garden. it was RS 600/- for a crappy room and I explained to my cousin I would rather go to the other ones which were ok and worth paying RS 300/- extra for. But he didn't listen and we went on a quest to find a cheaper place that was decent enough to stay in and ended up staying at one called the raj palace or rajput or something along the lines of raj... because we were tired and couldn't be asked to look further and ended paying RS 1000/- for a room that was worth only RS 500 - 600/-

try some web pages that list hotels or lonely planet. or simply do it the indian way with the "chale ga"/"ho jaye ga" attitude and tell the rickshaw driver to take you to a cheap place and see the ones they show you.
